Surveys show: Job satisfaction is sustainable
Many people spend a large portion of their waking hours at work. So, how we feel at work tends to influence how we feel overall.

What is it though, that determines whether or not we are happy at work? According to a 2019 survey by Yougov, the things that Swedes value the most are good colleagues and rewarding work tasks. But other things that matter a lot are a good balance between work and home and knowing that the work you do helps make the world a better place.

At Blomdahl, it is very important that employees have a good work environment and the company has a policy underlying all of its long-term decisions and all of the activities that are carried out on a daily basis.

Here is a list of items that many independent surveys have shown to be important to people at work. We want to share with you what that looks like here, at Blomdahl.

1. Having fun
“Having fun at work is more important to a person’s happiness than whether or not they have a family”

(from a survey conducted by Wise Group of 5,000 Swedes)

- Putting two important things up against each other seems unnecessary. At Blomdahl, we believe you shouldn’t have to choose if you don’t want to. Of course it’s possible to both have fun at work and have a functional family life, at the same time. Blomdahl is very accustomed to employees taking parental leave and later returning to the workplace. Many of our employees have had several children while working at Blomdahl and we regard their experience as the asset that it truly is.

2. Being proud of where you work
“Nearly 80% of all young people review a company’s CSR when they are looking for a job”

(according to an article in Dagens Analys)

– Blomdahl’s values are “characterized by openness and that all individuals should be treated equally and with respect”. Many therefore appreciate Blomdahl’s as a workplace, where everything from development to inventory is under the same roof, there are good working conditions with a strong focus on quality and that Blomdahl jewellery is nickel-free, so that everyone can feel beautiful every day.

3. Good working relationships
“People who feel that they have the support of their colleagues enjoy many health benefits and have better odds of living longer”

(from a study of 820 people at Tel Aviv University, highlighted on the website, Motivation)

– Of course, relationships between colleagues isn’t something that Blomdahl can control. However, the company does offer many heath-related benefits. Employees are offered massage once per month during working hours, a generous wellness subsidy to encourage exercise, computer eyeglasses for anyone who needs them, fresh fruit, and more.

4. The feeling of being part of a team
“People are constantly striving to belong to the group and find their role in it”

(according to the FIRO model, Fundamental Interpersonal Relations Orientation)

– Blomdahl’s policy is that “every employee gets the introduction and training they need in order to work safely and healthily”. So far so good, but the informal situations also build relationships and are at least as important. Like having breakfast time at the company with coffee and sandwiches, as well as our coffee break around 3 p.m. every day.

5. Independence with clear goals
“Having control over your own work is, to some extent, a prerequisite for being happy at work”

(from a research study based on almost 9,500 employees and published on the website, Kollega)

– Blomdahl’s policy states this as well: “We have a clear and visible leadership with respect and consideration for each employee.” Giving people the opportunity to influence their work situation is exactly what respect and consideration is all about. Clarity is also important. When you know what is expected of you, and get feedback at the right time, everything becomes so much easier. Freedom under responsibility with clear goals. That’s how it’s done at Blomdahl.

6. Development opportunities
“Doing the exact same thing, day in and day out, can become boring and unsatisfying in the long run”

– There is job rotation for everyone who works with production at Blomdahl so that everyone has several tasks with variation. Other departments are also encouraged to learn from each other in the same way. Employees are encouraged to take on more responsibility and thereby advance in their careers at the company. Everyone is offered skill development and performance appraisals on a regular basis in order to discover each person’s strengths and potential.
